ScamCheck verdicts and TrustSeal scores are automated, probabilistic assessments. They can produce false positives and false negatives. A “looks genuine” result does not guarantee a payment or business is legitimate; a flag does not prove wrongdoing. Always verify payments in your own account (not from screenshots) and verify businesses through official registries.
3. Statistics and third-party data
Where we cite statistics (e.g., our payment-scam statistics page), figures come from named primary sources (FTC, FBI IC3, UK Finance, ACCC and similar) and are linked to those sources. Reported figures understate true losses due to under-reporting; treat them as minimums. Errors brought to our attention are corrected.
